Why choose Horse and Hay
for your media solution?
The beginning of motion pictures started with still images of a horse racing by multiple cameras placed side by side to create the sense of movement. That’s the Horse part. It takes a lot of Hay to make the Horse run successfully, and it also takes a lot of people to make good presentation design and projected media happen. Tell us your story and we'll identify the best design to project it into the future.
Strategic Partnerships
Because we are all about relationships and bringing the best to the top, we strive to connect the right specialist to every job. We work with set designers, cinematographers, writers, directors, choreographers, and stage technicians for right-sized project fulfillment.
As a contractor for these events, we can bring it all together and we're here to help!
Designing for Venues
Sometimes it's just a proscenium arch with a traditional back or front video projection you need, but sometimes you need media that is dynamic and animated and fills the space gradually, overtime, and transforming the space into a magical experience.
Here are some of the venues Marilys Ernst has designed for...
United Nations
Designed video projections that ran on two screens simultaneously behind dance performance in the United Nation's Great Hall for live dance during the special event BREAKING THE SILENCE/BEATING THE DRUM, with Conduction, featuring AKON, Izaline Calister, Danny Glover, Gilberto Gil, Sundiata Keita, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Phylicia Rashad, Nelson Mandela, Whoopi Goldberg and Muhammad Ali
Whitney Museum
Performance in the new John Hess Family Theater of Heidi Latsky dance and video installation Soliloquy; Whitney Museum of American Art, producer.
We have done installations as well in the Smithsonian and the Morgan Library and Museum
Public Theatre NY
NEA Fellow, Carl Handcock Rux's play TALK; directed by Marion McClinton; with lead performance by Anthony Mackie, and Tony winner Karen Kandel and nominee Maria Tucci. Featuring dynamic projection growing from pinhole to 20’x20’ backdrop, OBIE winner for videography, and nominated for the ATW Hewes Design Award.
Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium
FREE: Amplified; cued video backdrop for Sekou Sundiata’s book of poetry performed by HPrizm (Anti-Pop Consortium), Tamar-kali, Douglas Kearney, Val-Jeanty, Kassa Overall, and Lisette Santiago.
Dance Theater Workshop
Dominata; choreographer, Jerome Fellow, Gabri Christa. A multimedia piece of dance/theater that used projected video sculptures. (NY Times Review: “Atmospheric video by Marilys Ernst is woven seamlessly into this rich fabric…”)
